Mat(the)writer was born and raised in Pierre, South Dakota. He earned a history degree from Montana State University in Bozeman before going on to study law at the University of South Dakota School of Law. Over the years he has worn many hats — business owner, schoolteacher, county assessor — and currently works at a law firm in Pierre. Along the way, he has called Portland, Seattle, and Denver home, among other cities, gathering a wide range of experiences that inform his writing. He now lives and works in his native South Dakota.
